GoCardless is a payment provider making payments faster, cheaper and more secure for its customers. In 2020, they expanded to Australia and New Zealand (ANZ). We had previously helped them establish a customer advocacy programme in the UK and Europe (such as this Nude customer story). Since we produce films globally, we were asked to create a series of customer stories to help support GoCardless sales and marketing in the Down Under regions.

The first customer story was filmed in Nelson, New Zealand with an excellent local director and camera operator whom we briefed and directed remotely from the UK. For the second phase, a director from Big Button flew to Australia with the client, working with local crews to film their customers in gyms, hair salons, hot chocolate stands, distribution centres and local parks.

The trip was very productive. We filmed eight customers across six days in Sydney and Melbourne. Each customer story had a 2 – 3-minute spotlight film, along with partner videos and social edits in different aspect ratios for each social media channel. There were also shorter ‘quote’ video clips for Instagram and TikTok, lasting 2 – 3-seconds each.


The campaign resulted in 40 edits ready to use in sales, marketing and internal communications. Customer advocacy plays a notable part in customer success at GoCardless, influencing millions in sales. It was rewarding to help them deliver maximum success with video by taking the programme to the next level across the world.
